Because so many people have made watching television a daily part of their routine the competition between television providers is very fierce. Cable Television used to be the main choice of people searching for service, but Satellite Television is fast becoming the top choice. There are many reasons why Satellite TV providers, such as Dish Network, are gaining more customers every day. One reason is the very enticing offers they give to new subscribers.
New Subscribers Hear âFreeâ Often
As a new subscriber to Dish Network, you will hear the word âfreeâ quite often. For instance, you receive Free Installation by professionally trained technicians to ensure your satellite TV system is running correctly from the beginning. You have the option of choosing a Free Four Room System. This allows you and your family to watch four different programs in four different rooms of your home at the same time. Plus, there is no equipment to buy for new subscribers and that free equipment comes with a Lifetime Warranty in addition to a Free Home Protection Plan. These arenât the only things that come free when you join.
Record, Store, Pause, and Rewind Without a VCR
You also are given the choice of either a free DVR upgrade or a free HD upgrade. A DVR, or Digital Video Recorder, can record and store up to 100 hours of your favorite shows so you can watch them any time you want. DVRs also allow you to pause and rewind live TV. If you miss a piece of information in a program or want to watch a moment in a sports game, show, or movie then just pause, rewind to that moment, and watch again. You then have the choice of continuing to watch from that moment or jumping ahead to where the program is running live.
High Definition Means High Quality
If you have purchased a HD, or High Definition, television, then you probably want to take full advantage of its superior image and sound capabilities. If so, then the Free HD Receiver upgrade for new customers is the way to go. This HD receiver has an Optical Dolby Digital output, Component & DVI outputs, Optional Analog & Digital Off-Air Local, and is Standard-Def & High-Def compatible. Another reason for HD users to choose DishNetwork is that they offer Americaâs largest HD channel lineup. However, you may want the capabilities of both the DVR and the HD receivers. Well, you are in luck because DishNetworkâs cutting-edge satelite technology is now offering the industryâs first HD DVR receiver that combines all the great features of the two into one.
High-Speed Satellite Internet Now Available
To complete the full entertainment needs of people DishNetwork is now offering High-Speed Satelite Internet service through HughesNet. HughesNet is Americaâs #1 choice for Broadband by Satelite. This offer is particularly good for those who are currently using dialup service. Besides being much faster in surfing and downloading, the advantages over dialup are that you have broadband access, it is always on/available, is optimized for multiple users, and has advanced security features. HughesNet satelite service is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Itâs a great option for those living in rural areas where cable Internet service is not available.
Dish Network is Tops in Customer Satisfaction
Perhaps the best way to make a final decision on whether to choose a product is to see what other users of it think. When you do this, DishNetwork beats every one of its competitors. J.D. Power & Associates has repeatedly awarded them the highest rating in Customer Satisfaction. With that many people happy with their service, it is safe to assume you would be too.

Millions of radio listeners in the United States and all over the world have become so much happier with the introduction of satellite radio. Now, people can listen to literally hundreds of stations that offer music, news, radio talk shows and more in virtually real-time and at a much higher audio quality than that which FM or AM radio provides.
With conventional radio, land-based stations broadcast their signals to your boom box, computer, or car radio via the earth’s airwaves. With satellite radio however, providers transmit encrypted signals to satellites they launched in outer space; these satellites in turn beam the signals to customers’ listening devices. But you can’t use just any radio; you need a special receiver (which is available at electronics retailers) and a satellite radio set. You can also listen to satellite radio broadcasts in your car since many new cars rolling of the assembly lines have satellite-ready equipment already installed. All you would need to do is pay for your monthly subscription.
In the United States, service is offered by XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio. Sirius, a company based in New York City, has over 125 channels from which to choose, 67 of them dedicated to commercial-free music and the rest to various other content. XM, on the other hand, offers more than 160 channels, which offer content that is as diverse as that which Sirius extends to its customers. The services are available coast-to-coast, so geographical availability of programs is not an issue. A customer in Los Angeles, for example, can listen to the same talk show that another customer in say, Boston, is listening to at the same time, and with no degradation in audio quality. Remember that satellite radio also means digital radio—sound is crystal-clear. There’s none of the static or hissing you would sometimes hear on FM or AM radio. Non-US residents can also take advantage of the benefits of satellite radio; XM and Sirius offer their services in Canada, while WorldSpace broadcasts its service across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Australia has several providers of its own also.
Factors that attract people to sign up for satellite radio subscriptions are numerous. For one thing, there’s the pleasure of listening to commercial-free music. Since the providers make their money from subscriptions, there is still no pressing need for advertising revenue. Another attractive feature that this service offers is that information about the song being played at the moment is displayed on your radio set—a small convenience for those people who have to know about who is singing what song right-now. The fact that satellite radio programming is completely uncensored at the moment is also a draw for many people. Noteworthy personalities, such as shock jock Howard Stern (who was kicked out of network radio programming) has made satellite radio his new broadcasting home. Whether you want to listen to hip-hop music, stand-up comedy shows, or news programs, satellite radio offers them—all completely uncensored.
Because Sirius, XM, and other providers are the ones who set the channel selections, some people might find it a bit inconvenient that they won’t be able to listen to their local radio stations and get information on local goings-on. However, Sirius and XM do provide traffic and weather data for major cities, so that should be a bit of a relief for city residents. And if you think about it, not getting access to one local radio station wouldn’t seem to be such a bad deal if you compare it to the ability to listen to hundreds of channels of commercial-free music and unregulated non-regulated shows.
Sirius and XM plan to add even more features and functions to offer to their subscribers. Sirius, in particular, is readying the launch of a Windows Media Video 9 service and the company plans to offer several channels dedicated to children. That’s one more thing to keep the kids occupied and not distract their parents on long road trips. XM plans to release a similar video service. The two companies are anticipating that this will add to the number of their subscribers—Sirius has over one million, trailing after XM which has more than three million.
If you’re an avid radio listener and you’re finding yourself becoming fed up with the constant barrage of commercials on regular music stations or if you’re looking for more no-holds-barred commentaries or radio talk shows, you probably wouldn’t mind forking over the $12.95 monthly subscription for satellite radio service charged by Sirius and XM. And with the increases that the two companies see in their subscriber numbers, it’s evident that a lot of people feel the same way.

Satellite TV for many years has been the domain of tech wizards and corporations. Not any more. It’s very easy to construct your own system using the informaton in this article.
The fundamental elements that make up a satellite TV system are:-
1- A Satellite Dish
2- A Satellite Dish Mount (portable or fixed is fine)
3- An LNB (low noise block amplifier * Goes on the arm of the dish)
4- A Satellite Receiver (many brands and versions available * Shop around for a suitable well priced model)
5- A Satellite Finder (analogue and digital varieties * Analogue though generally cheaper)
6- Accurate Satellite Charts
Choosing the right satellite dish for your area is the most important factor. Dishes come in many sizes ranging from very small (in the centimeters) to many meters.
In recent times with the increase in satellite transmission power people are able to get away with a much smaller dish then they did in the past. Typical size for coverage in many areas is 78 to 88 cm s. (for the KU band * If you are a beginner to satellite I recommend KU reception if it is available in your area. For those that have an interest in C band reception you will generally need a much bigger dish. eg Greater then 1.5m for many areas)
The LNB is the part on the end of the arm. It amplifies the weak signals that are collected and reflected into it by the dish. This signal once amplified, is carried down the satellite cable to the satellite receiver. Here it is converted into a signal that your conventional television can understand.
It should be noted that A LOT of the available services from the satellites ARE encrypted to prevent theft. These services will generally require a monthly or annual subscription for their reception. If you are intending to view these ensure your satellite receiver has an imbedded card reader or Cam Slot and can decrypt the services you are interested in. (you should also check your providers terms and conditions or service agreement to ensure that what you are hoping to achieve would not be in violation of them)
The satellite finder and charts are only used during the initial installation until you have a picture. The finder can then be removed. Your local satellite parts dealer will be best able to advise on the correct equipment and alignment procedures for your area. For people installing to the roof ensure you are competent and take all the necessary safety precautions!
The end result of what you are doing it that when it comes to home entertainment, your television has quickly become the source for relaxation and amusement. While there are an array of channels and programs to choose from nowadays, it all depends on the system that you have. It can be difficult to decipher which is better, but home satellite systems and cable television are the most widely used systems today. Here are 6 things you can do to help choose between the two.
1. The first thing you should do is contact local cable companies and satellite providers to get prices. By contacting the companies, you can learn how much it costs for certain packages and cable boxes versus a home satellite system.
2. After learning about the prices, look in-depth at the various packages they offer. You want to find a package that offers as much of your interests as possible. There is no point in paying for an expensive home satellite system (or purchasing the parts to DIY) that has only a couple sports stations if sports are your passion.
3. High-definition television has become the new thing with television, providing viewers with crystal clear programming. Not all cable television systems or home satellite systems have high-definition, so make sure that you ask your local provider if they offer this feature.
4. As crazy as it may seem, some home satellite systems do not include local channels. If you live in a smaller town, this is more common than not. There are many competing satellite providers all trying to win over the public and a majority of the public is looking for national coverage. If you do want local channels you should look closely into the provider that you sign up with.
5. The picture quality is one of the most important parts to the entertainment. Keep in mind that home satellite systems tend to have better broadcast quality than cable television. However, satellite television is more prone to go down due to weather complications such as heavy rain or snow.
6. The last thing to consider is how many rooms and TV’s you are looking to get systems connected to. Some providers offer specials for having additional rooms, while other providers have a limit to how many rooms you can have connected to cable boxes or satellite dishes.
As you can see, there are a number of things that should be considered prior to signing up to a home satellite system or cable program. The more research you do prior to agreeing to anything, the better chance you will have of finding the right system for your household.

People watch satellite TV for many reasons. If you are watching satellite TV now, you will understand that sitting in front of the TV and enjoying the solid picture quality and variety of satellite TV programs is one of the best entertainment avenue. Want to know more about satellite TV? What are some of the reasons why TV viewers in America, Canada, UK, Australia and all parts of the world watch satellite TV?
Satellite TV offers excellent picture quality comparable if not better than cable TV. People who live in fringe terrestrial reception areas love satellite TV because this is the only form of TV entertainment they have, other than buying or renting movies and TV shows. As long as you have clear skies without any obstruction by skyscrapers, mountains and hills, trees, etc, you have no problem receiving the feeds and watch satellite TV at any time.
There are two common methods to watch satellite TV. You get satellite TV either by subscribing with the service providers such as DirecTV and Sky Digital or build a do- it-yourself satellite dish system. With the service provider, you get to watch satellite TV every month by paying a monthly subscription fee. Installation and equipment can be free though unlike setting up your own DIY system. I wouldnât advise you to set up your own if you are not the hands-on type of person. The whole process can be an arduous and painful journey.
One clear edge satellite TV has is it has a wider selection of programs than cable TV. And the best thing is there are numerous international popular channels that you can choose to watch. Satellite TV and cable TV do have some common features such as pay-per-download or view, premium channels, broadband connection. Another advantage of satellite TV over cable is the capability to receive free-to-air (FTA) TV channel broadcast from TV channels across the globe. But this often is enhanced if your DIY satellite dish is a multi-dish system. With a customized satellite dish system, you can expect to watch satellite TV channels from hundreds to thousands of satellite TV stations.
But satellite TV is not perfect. People do have a few grouses about watching satellite TV. For each TV at home, you need an additional receiver and a separate coaxial line. The additional receiver would blot up your subscription fees every month. Having a satellite dish sticking out on the roof can be a sore thumb to some folks as well. It can be very troublesome as well for certain states or districts where there is a need for approval from the building authorities.
People can lay the problems of satellite TV to rest now that there is a breakthrough technology that enables folks like us to watch satellite TV on PC using PC satellite TV software. Find out more at my satellite TV blog.

The world of home entertainment has a decidedly different landscape than that of 20 years ago. From the ability to take control of programming through digital video recorders and pay-per-view options to the ever expanding list of programming choices available in any niche, consumers have an increasing ability to individualize the entertainment they enjoy in their homes. Interactive television is another option that is now offered which allows viewers to obtain even more for their entertainment dollar.
Echostar’s Dish Network satellite television service provides DishHome Interactive Channel 100 which gives subscribers access to a wide variety of interactive programming, but for many families the various game packages provide the greatest attraction. In keeping with the theory that the family which plays together stays together, these Dish Network packages could certainly play a role in family harmony.
One of the more popular packages, DishGAMES, offers 16 games from Pixel Play including ASTEROID MEGA, CENTIPEDE MEGA, CHAINZ, JUMBLE, TextTwist, and other titles from Atari, Hasbro, MumboJumbo, and Real Arcade. This package offers interactive features such as score submission, leader boards, tournament capabilities, prizing, and polling creating a greater sense of individual, community, or family challenge and competition. The KidsWise feature even offers “edutainment” games to build reading, problem solving and thinking skills. The affordable $4.99/mo or $49.99/year pricing is attractive but current non-subscribers can easily experience these games via a demonstration on the Dish Network site for free before making any purchase.
For those seeking something even less expensive or wanting a bit more of a brain buzz, Dish Network also offers Buzztime Trivia. For $3.99/month or $43.89/year, a wide variety of Trivia games are available for individuals or the whole family.
From action, adventure, and sports to casino-style, puzzle, board, and strategy games Playin’-TV is a package that offers a huge variety which can assure that every member of the family will be seeking out some stay-at-home time. With a monthly rate of $4.99 or annual $54.89, it is still a viable option for most families.
The final offering is a great option for those on a stricter entertainment budget. Dish Network’s PlayJam provides an ever changing lineup of some of the more hip and currently popular games. With 13 to 15 games offered at any time, most families will discover numerous choices to feed their entertainment cravings. One of the most attractive features of this package however is that there are free levels to all of the games making it affordable for any Dish Network subscriber.
Interactive programming is bringing control of home entertainment into the hands of viewers; and in the case of Dish Network’s interactive game packages, it is also bringing families together.

There is good news coming out of Englewood, Colorado these days if you are a fan of (HD) High-Definition television. For those of you who canât get enough HD and find it hard to go back to (SD) Standard Definition TV after being spoiled by the stunningly deep, crisp images available with digital HD will be glad to hear this.
EchoStar Communications Corp. has announced that its DISH Network satellite TV service has unveiled its new high-definition television package, named DishHD, with the most HD channels in the pay-TV industry.
DISH Network is expanding its extensive HD channel lineup this year by adding five new original VOOM channels, bringing the total to 15, as well as other HD networks including ESPN2 HD and Universal HD.
In addition to these great advances, DISH Network will begin to launch high definition local channels through its satellite service in up to 50 markets in this year, starting with Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York in February, and reaching more than half of U.S. TV households with local HD channels.
DishHD will have a total of 25 national HD channels plus the local broadcast channels where available, providing more than 200 hours of HD programming every day. That is a lot of content!
In addition, DISH Network satellite TV will offer ESPN2 HD, a 24-hour high-definition (HD) simulcast service of ESPN2, as part of the new “DishHD” programming package. ESPN2 HD will be available beginning Feb. 1, 2006.
âWe look forward to ESPN2 HD joining ESPN HD on DISH Network’s line-up to enhance viewing for high-definition subscribers and sports fans across the country by providing viewers with the high-quality picture clarity and programming detail that only an HDTV signal can provide,” said Ben Pyne, president, Disney and ESPN networks Affiliate Sales and Marketing. “DISH Network has a proven focus on high-definition television with its offer of a robust package of compelling high-definition content.”
“ESPN2 HD, with its popular sports coverage, further complements DISH Network’s powerful line-up of HD programming,” said Eric Sahl, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network. “DISH Network is the nation’s leader of HD programming and offers more HD channels than any other cable or satellite provider.”
Together, ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD will combine in 2006 to deliver over 600 major sports events — 220 in just the first three months of 2006âall in high definition. The events telecast will include a variety of games from college football, the men’s and women’s softball College World Series, the Little League World Series, both men’s and women’s college basketball, the NBA, Major League Baseball, Monday Night Football from the National Football League, the Women’s Final Four, the National Finals Rodeo, the National Hot-Rod Association, the NCAA Frozen Four (hockey championships) and the FIFA World Cup from Germany.
“This is perfect timing for EchoStar to launch ESPN2 HD — our hearty programming line-up consisting of 150 college basketball games in the first three months is remarkable,” said Bryan Burns, vice president, Strategic Planning and Business Development, ESPN. “With over 6,500 hours of HD content slated for 2006 across both HD services, ESPN2 HD has clearly become a ‘must have’ in our fans’ eyes.”
Customers are loving these changes; have you hugged your HDTV today?

Americans were thrilled with the introduction of cable television and it caught on rapidly because it offered more programming than every before. However, a mere decade later satellite programming became available and made Americans aware that there were other television programming options available.
However, at this time, satellite televisions were very expensive because of the equipment, difficult to navigate and the programming was not very good. However, satellite companies were working to develop a better product that would be a rival to cable television and garner more customers. Thus, satellite companies came out with a small dish that was mountable virtually anywhere and that offered an outstanding package of programming for the subscriber.
Because of this, satellite television has made a comeback and is growing at a rate of approximately 30% per year while cable is growing at around 10 %. So, the real question is, what benefits does satellite television offer the subscriber that cable television does not?
The answer is satellite television is more affordable, offers more programming, digital shows, and better customer service.
Amazingly, today satellite television subscribers are paying a smaller televise provider bill on a monthly basis than are cable subscribers. The reason for this is satellite companies are stiff competitors so prices are constantly being challenged by competitors. Because of this, satellite subscribers win and ultimately have lower bills.
Also, when you subscribe to satellite television there is always something on. There are a variety of all movie channels, sports channels, history channels, arts and entertainment, children’s channels, foreign language channels, music and more. If you cannot find something to watch on satellite television at any given moment during the day then you will never find anything to watch.
In addition to the amazing programming packages and channel selections, satellite television provides all of its channels through digital technology. Because of this the subscriber receives a better, clearer image that is more enjoyable.
Customer service is another benefit satellite television customers have over cable subscribers. The reason for this is that cable companies basically have a monopoly over the area in which they operate while satellite companies have to worry about the competition of other satellite companies. Because of this, customer service is great in order to keep as many customers as possible.
If you are unhappy with your current cable subscription, then simply change over to satellite to finally have the channels you want, an affordable, great customer service and television programming that really meets your needs. You will not regret your decision and in fact you will more than likely wonder what took you so long to switch. Do some research online to find the satellite companies that offer the best specials.
